Material Supply Scope

Coated Metal for Siding and Cladding Manufacturers

Wood grain metal siding is formed from decorative coated coil or sheet. The finished panel geometry is created by the buyer’s roll-forming, folding, stamping or panel-assembly line. The same woodgrain surface can behave differently when blank width, rib depth, bend radius, coating route or grain direction changes.

What we supply: printed or laminated wood grain metal in master coil, slit coil and cut-to-length sheet. We work with panel producers, importers and fabricators. We do not sell retail house siding, quote local installation labour or provide on-site façade installation.

New Profile Intent

Profiles We Supply Coil For — Board & Batten, Plank, Shingle, Vertical

The values below are practical starting ranges for discussing steel siding material. They are not universal finished-panel specifications. Exact thickness and input blank width must be calculated from the profile drawing, steel grade, rib depth, visible coverage and forming line. Aluminum requires a separate thickness and springback review.

Board and Batten Profiles

Wide flat boards separated by raised battens. The wood grain normally runs vertically, so print direction and repeat should be aligned with the formed panel length.

Steel Thickness Typical starting discussion: 0.40–0.60 mm
Input Blank Width Often about 300–650 mm, calculated from coverage and rib draw-in
Forming Focus Deep batten ribs, flat-pan control, springback and oil-canning risk
Provide the visible coverage, batten height, rib spacing and seam design before slitting.

Plank and Lap-Siding Profiles

Long horizontal planks use interlocking, lapped or concealed-fastener edges. The grain usually follows the panel length to reproduce a timber-plank appearance.

Steel Thickness Typical starting discussion: 0.35–0.55 mm
Input Blank Width Often about 250–500 mm, depending on lap and visible coverage
Forming Focus Long flat pan, locking edges, straightness and surface marking
Confirm whether the panel is horizontal lap siding, interlocking plank or a deep box profile.

Metal Shingle and Shake Profiles

Shingles and shakes may use narrow coil, stamped modules or cut blanks. Pattern repeat and registration become more visible when many small units are installed together.

Steel Thickness Typical starting discussion: 0.35–0.50 mm
Strip / Blank Width Often about 200–450 mm, but the shingle module controls the final blank
Forming Focus Stamping depth, folded locks, pattern registration and edge protection
Share the shingle module, press drawing and nesting plan before confirming coil or sheet supply.

Vertical Wood Grain Metal Siding

Vertical profiles may use ribs, standing seams or concealed fastening. Grain direction should remain consistent from coil slitting through panel installation.

Steel Thickness Typical starting discussion: 0.40–0.60 mm
Input Blank Width Often about 300–650 mm, calculated from ribs and visible coverage
Forming Focus Panel straightness, seam consistency, coil set and rib distortion
Confirm panel length, rib pitch, fastening method and required flatness before production.

Width means input blank width, not finished visible coverage. Roll forming consumes material in ribs, laps, locks and seams. The blank should be calculated from the customer’s actual profile drawing before slit-coil production.

Colour and Format Intent

Wood Grain Colours & Standard Sizes

Pattern choice should include the base tone, printed grain, gloss, texture, repeat and orientation. A colour name such as oak or grey is only a starting point; production should be controlled against an approved physical sample.

Oak colour wood grain metal siding coil
Oak Wood Grain Warm natural tones for façades and plank profiles
Walnut colour wood grain metal cladding material
Walnut Wood Grain Medium to dark brown decorative direction
Dark wood grain metal siding colour
Dark Wood Grain Espresso, charcoal and deep timber effects
Light wood grain metal siding colour
Light Wood Grain Ash, maple and pale timber directions
Grey wood grain cladding and metal siding colour
Grey Wood Grain Grey oak, weathered timber and contemporary cladding directions
Steel Thickness

A common starting discussion for roll-formed siding is approximately 0.35–0.60 mm. Heavier or lighter material is reviewed by profile, grade and design load.

Master Coil Width

Common source widths may include 914, 1000, 1219 and 1250 mm, subject to the substrate, coating line and order. The coil is then slit to the calculated profile blank.

Slit Coil Width

Produced from the finished panel drawing. State the width tolerance, burr limit, coil ID, maximum coil weight and winding direction required by the roll former.

Cut-to-Length Sheet

Flat blanks around 2000, 2440 or 3000 mm can be discussed where the customer forms panels from sheet. Final length and packaging depend on the application and transport method.

Buyers searching for a “3m steel woodgrain wall cladding panel” may require a three-metre finished profile or a three-metre flat blank. We supply the coated metal used to produce it. Confirm whether 3000 mm refers to the incoming sheet, the formed panel or the installed coverage before quotation.

Solid-colour flashings, trims or matching components can be selected from the RAL colour collection . RAL codes are useful for supporting solid colours; a wood grain pattern still requires its own approved sample.

Material System

Substrate and Surface Routes for Exterior Siding

The wood appearance does not define outdoor performance. The complete substrate, metallic coating, primer, printed or laminated surface, back coat, cut edges and panel design must be considered together.

01

Wood Grain PPGI

Printed or patterned coating over a galvanized steel substrate. Review zinc coating, pretreatment, primer, clear coat, forming and cut-edge exposure.

PPGI coil and sheet
02

Wood Grain PPGL

Decorative coating over an Al-Zn-coated substrate. Suitability depends on the alloy type, AZ coating, paint system, profile and actual environment.

PPGL steel coil
03

Printed Aluminum Coil

Lightweight option for selected cladding systems. Aluminum does not form red rust like carbon steel, but alloy, temper, corrosion environment and galvanic contact still matter.

Prepainted aluminum coil
04

Outdoor-Rated Laminated Metal

A decorative film may provide deeper texture, but only an exterior-approved film and adhesive system should be considered for weather-exposed siding.

Laminated steel sheet

Do not convert a paint name or salt-spray result into a guaranteed field life. Exterior performance also depends on climate, pollutants, salt deposition, orientation, drainage, cut edges, fasteners, installation and maintenance.

Purchasing Framework

Specifications to Confirm Before Ordering Siding Material

Final values should follow the actual profile, environment, customer standard and source material. The table is a quotation checklist, not a universal product specification.

Item What to Provide Why It Matters Approval Evidence
Panel Profile Board and batten, plank, shingle, vertical rib or another drawing Determines blank width, bend severity, visible coverage and grain direction Profile drawing and formed sample
Substrate GI, GL, aluminum or another approved metal; standard and grade Affects formability, corrosion system, weight and cost Order specification and material certificate
Thickness Nominal metal thickness and required tolerance basis Controls stiffness, roll forming, oil-canning risk and panel weight Incoming inspection and production trial
Blank Width Calculated input width, slit tolerance and burr requirement Finished coverage is not the same as input coil width Slitting record and first formed panel
Pattern Direction Machine direction, grain orientation, repeat and panel layout Prevents reversed grain and visible mismatch between installed panels Approved layout and physical sample
Colour & Gloss Reference sample, measurement conditions, texture and agreed tolerance Large adjacent panels make batch differences easier to see Signed sample and batch inspection
Exterior Coating Primer, printed layer, clear coat or exterior film and back-coat requirements Outdoor suitability belongs to the full material system Technical data and project test requirements
Forming Rib depth, bend radii, line speed, tooling, embossing and forming temperature Unsuitable forming can crack paint, whiten film or distort the pattern Representative roll-forming trial
Coil Data Coil ID, OD, maximum weight, winding direction and packaging Must fit the decoiler, roll former and material-handling process Order confirmation and packing list
Environment Climate, salt, industrial pollutants, orientation and maintenance target Determines whether the proposed substrate and surface route are appropriate Customer standard and system approval
Supporting Cost Intent

What Changes the Material Price?

Buyers comparing wood grain metal siding cost should separate the coated-material price from local roll forming, insulation, accessories, freight and installation. This page covers the coil, slit coil or sheet supplied to the panel manufacturer.

Base Metal and Coating

Substrate, steel grade, metallic coating, exterior paint or film structure and back coat have a larger effect than the pattern name alone.

Profile and Processing

Thickness, slit width, number of specifications, cut-to-length requirements, coil weight, packaging and trial production affect processing cost.

Pattern Development and Volume

Existing pattern rollers normally follow a different cost route from custom colour separation, print development, samples and small multi-pattern orders.

A low material quote is not comparable unless the full specification matches. Check thickness basis, coating designation, exterior system, blank width, coil data, packaging and pattern approval before comparing suppliers.

FAQ

Wood Grain Metal Siding FAQ

Do you supply finished board and batten siding panels?
We primarily supply the wood grain coated coil, slit coil or cut-to-length sheet used by siding and cladding manufacturers. Finished-panel production and local installation are outside this page’s supply scope.
What steel thickness is used for board and batten or plank siding?
A common starting discussion is approximately 0.35–0.60 mm, but the correct thickness depends on the profile geometry, steel grade, visible coverage, design loads, forming line and local building-system requirements.
Can you provide grey wood grain cladding material?
Grey oak, weathered timber and other grey wood grain directions can be discussed using an existing pattern or customer reference. Final colour, grain, gloss and texture should be approved on a physical production sample.
Can you supply material for a 3 metre wall cladding panel?
A 3000 mm cut-to-length blank can be discussed where suitable, or coil can be supplied for continuous roll forming. The buyer should clarify whether three metres refers to the flat incoming sheet, the formed panel or the installed coverage.
Which grain direction should be used for vertical siding?
The grain normally follows the installed panel length. The machine direction, print repeat, slit orientation and panel layout should be agreed before production to avoid reversed or mismatched panels.
Is laminated wood grain metal suitable for outdoor siding?
Only an exterior-approved film and adhesive system should be considered. Standard indoor decorative films should not automatically be used outdoors. The formed panel and cut edges should also be validated.
What determines wood grain metal siding material cost?
Main variables include substrate, thickness, metallic coating, exterior surface route, pattern development, blank width, coil data, processing, quantity, packaging and destination. Local panel forming and installation are separate costs.
