Common Questions

Alloy Selection FAQ

Answers to the most common questions we receive from buyers and engineers.

What is the difference between 1050 and 3003 prepainted aluminum coil?
1050 is commercially pure aluminum (≥99.5% Al) offering maximum ductility and corrosion resistance but low strength — best for decorative or light-duty applications. 3003 adds manganese for 20% higher tensile strength while retaining good formability, making it the standard choice for roofing, cladding and HVAC where structural performance matters.
Which alloy is best for building exterior wall cladding?
3003 and 3105 are the most common choices for exterior cladding. 3003 suits commercial roofing and wall panels where standard corrosion resistance suffices. 3105 is preferred for high-end residential siding and fascia because its tighter chemistry produces a superior surface finish that holds paint uniformly over long service life.
PVDF vs PE coating: which should I choose?
PE (Polyester) is cost-effective for interior applications or low-UV environments with a typical service life of 8–10 years. PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride / Kynar 500) delivers superior UV resistance and colour retention for outdoor cladding and roofing — recommended service life 20+ years. For all exterior architectural projects, PVDF is the standard specification.
Is 5052 alloy suitable for marine or coastal construction?
Yes — 5052 is specifically recommended for marine and coastal environments. Its magnesium content (2.2–2.8% Mg) gives outstanding resistance to salt-spray corrosion, far superior to 1xxx and 3xxx series alloys. Combined with PVDF coating, 5052 prepainted coil provides long-term protection in highly aggressive atmospheric conditions.
Can I get a custom colour outside of standard RAL?
Yes. We match any RAL code, Pantone reference or customer-supplied colour sample. Custom widths from 100 mm to 1600 mm are also available. For PVDF custom colours, minimum order quantities apply — contact us with your specification for a full quotation.
What is the MOQ and lead time?
Standard MOQ is 3–5 metric tonnes per alloy/colour combination. Lead time is typically 15–25 days after order confirmation. For common 3003 and 3105 stock colours (White 9016, Grey 7016), shipment within 5 working days may be available — contact us to check availability.
