What Is Pre-Coated Metal?
Pre-coated metal is flat metal coil that receives primer, topcoat and back coat before it is cut, formed or assembled into final products. In appliance and decorative panel sourcing, it is often called PCM steel, pre-painted steel sheet, pre-coated steel or pre-painted metal sheet.
The main advantage is consistency. Coating is applied on a continuous coil coating line under controlled conditions, which gives better color uniformity, coating adhesion, gloss control and production efficiency than painting individual parts after fabrication.

How to Choose the Right PCM Steel
A good pre-coated metal quotation starts with application details. The same color and thickness may need different substrate, paint system or back coat depending on where the material will be used.
For appliance buyers, panel position matters: refrigerator doors, side panels, washing machine cabinets and air conditioner housings do not have the same surface and processing requirements. For construction or cabinet buyers, corrosion environment and forming profile become more important.

Is PCM steel the same as pre-coated metal?
In appliance and coated steel sourcing, PCM usually means Pre-Coated Metal. It is steel or metal coil coated before fabrication. Some buyers also call it pre-painted steel sheet, pre-coated steel or color-coated steel.
What is the difference between PCM and VCM?
PCM uses a painted coating applied by roller coating. VCM uses PVC or PET decorative film laminated onto steel. PCM is better for solid-color, cost-controlled panels, while VCM is better for brushed, wood grain, stainless-look and other film finishes.
Can pre-coated metal be supplied as sheets instead of coils?

What substrate should I choose for PCM steel sheet?
Cold rolled steel is common for indoor appliance panels. Galvanized steel is often selected when additional corrosion resistance is needed. Galvalume or PPGL can be considered for humid or outdoor exposure. The final choice depends on application, forming process and service environment.
Can you match a custom color?
Yes. Color can be matched by RAL code, customer sample or target finish. Before bulk production, sample sheets should be confirmed for color, gloss, surface appearance and forming performance.
