What Is Matte Wrinkle Steel?

Matte Wrinkle Steel is a pre-painted galvanized steel coil (PPGI) with a specialized textured top coat that forms a dense, uniform micro-wrinkle pattern during high-temperature curing.

Unlike standard PPGI which uses a smooth paint surface, the wrinkle finish is engineered at the coating formulation level. When the paint is baked at a controlled peak metal temperature (PMT) of around 230°C, the coating reticulates — forming thousands of microscopic ridges per square centimeter. The result is permanent: the texture is the coating itself, not a post-process embossing.

This makes it fundamentally different from embossed steel. Wrinkle Steel achieves its texture through chemistry; embossed steel achieves it through mechanical deformation. For architects and specifiers, the key difference is: wrinkle finish offers a softer, more uniform visual texture with no risk of paint cracking at the pattern peaks.

Does the wrinkle texture trap dirt or accelerate corrosion?
No. The wrinkle ridges are microscopic with rounded peaks — they do not form deep crevices that trap contaminants. The coating film thickness (20–25 μm DFT) is consistent across both peaks and valleys, so there is no localized thinning that would accelerate corrosion. In practice, the micro-channel structure between ridges assists rainwater drainage, reducing the dwell time of moisture on the surface compared to smooth coatings.
Can Wrinkle Steel be roll-formed into roofing profiles without cracking the coating?
Yes, provided the correct paint system is specified. Our wrinkle coating formulations achieve a T-bend test result of ≤ 3T, meaning the coating can tolerate bending around a mandrel equal to 3× the substrate thickness without cracking or delamination. This is compatible with the forming radii used in standard IBR, corrugated, and standing seam roll-forming profiles. For tight-radius profiles, specify HDP paint system which offers superior elongation over standard Matt PE.
Can you match our specific project color in wrinkle finish?
Yes. We accept any RAL Classic, RAL Design, or Pantone reference. What is the difference between Matt PE, HDP, and PVDF for wrinkle finish?
Matt PE (Polyester) is the standard entry-level system — cost-effective, suitable for inland environments with moderate UV exposure. Typical warranty: 10 years for color retention.

HDP (High-Durability Polyester) uses a higher-molecular-weight resin with improved UV resistance. Recommended for tropical, coastal-adjacent, or high-altitude environments. Typical warranty: 15 years.

PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride) is the premium system with the highest chemical, UV, and weathering resistance. Standard for landmark architectural projects and coastal environments. Typical warranty: 20–25 years. Price premium vs. PE: approximately 15–25%.
What is the minimum order quantity and how do I get samples?
MOQ for standard stock colors (RAL 7016, 8017, 9005, etc.): 3 MT per coil. MOQ for custom color matching: 5 MT. Cut-to-length sheet orders are negotiable based on sheet size and thickness.
