What Is Pre-Coated Metal?
Pre-coated metal is flat metal coil that receives primer, topcoat and back coat before it is cut, formed or assembled into final products. In appliance and decorative panel sourcing, it is often called PCM acero, pre-painted steel sheet, pre-coated steel o pre-painted metal sheet.
The main advantage is consistency. Coating is applied on a continuous coil coating line under controlled conditions, which gives better color uniformity, coating adhesion, gloss control and production efficiency than painting individual parts after fabrication.

PCM and VCM are both pre-finished metal materials, but they are not the same. This page focuses on PCM / painted pre-coated metal.

Uses primer and liquid paint applied by roller coating. Best for solid colors, matte, gloss, metallic paint, orange-peel finish and cost-controlled panel production.

PCM steel is mainly used for painted and coated finishes. Decorative film and printed texture options should be separated into VCM or printed steel materials.

Procurement note: Avoid quoting only by thickness and color. For PCM steel, the substrate, coating type, top paint thickness, back coat requirement and forming method can all change price and performance.
How to Choose the Right PCM Steel
A good pre-coated metal quotation starts with application details. The same color and thickness may need different substrate, paint system or back coat depending on where the material will be used.
For appliance buyers, panel position matters: refrigerator doors, side panels, washing machine cabinets and air conditioner housings do not have the same surface and processing requirements. For construction or cabinet buyers, corrosion environment and forming profile become more important.

In appliance and coated steel sourcing, PCM usually means Pre-Coated Metal. It is steel or metal coil coated before fabrication. Some buyers also call it pre-painted steel sheet, pre-coated steel or color-coated steel.

Yes. Color can be matched by RAL code, customer sample or target finish. Before bulk production, sample sheets should be confirmed for color, gloss, surface appearance and forming performance.
What tests should be confirmed before ordering PCM steel?
Common tests include coating thickness, color difference, gloss, T-bend, cross-cut adhesion, pencil hardness, MEK resistance and salt spray test when corrosion resistance is required. For appliance panels, back coat compatibility may also be important.
