Embossed Steel Sheet

What Is Embossed Steel Sheet?

Embossed steel is a metal sheet or coil with raised or recessed 3D patterns pressed into its surface through a continuous roll-forming process.

Flat steel passes through synchronized patterned rollers under immense pressure. This reshapes the surface geometry without reducing the base wall thickness — the metal is work-hardened in the process. The result is a panel that retains its original mechanical properties while gaining structurally enhanced rigidity, anti-slip functionality, and upgraded visual appeal.

Embossed steel is specified by engineers and procurement teams across home appliances, construction, transportation, and industrial equipment — anywhere a flat sheet is insufficient.

Material & Substrate Options

We emboss a wide variety of substrates. Match your corrosion resistance, weight, and finish requirements below.

Substrate Key Characteristics Typical Applications Min. Thickness
Cold Rolled Steel (CR) Highest surface precision. Optimal for post-painting or powder coating. Appliance housings, indoor electrical cabinets 0.3mm
Galvanized Steel (GI / HDG) Hot-dip zinc coating for superior corrosion resistance in outdoor or humid environments. Construction panels, HVAC ductwork, roofing 0.35mm
Pre-Painted Steel (PPGI) Color-coated before embossing — eliminates secondary painting. Wide RAL color range. Premium appliance fascias, decorative interior walls 0.3mm
Stainless Steel (SS 304 / 316) High-end aesthetic, extreme corrosion resistance, food-safe. Commercial kitchens, elevator cabins, luxury facades 0.5mm
Aluminum Alloy (1xxx / 3xxx / 5xxx) Lightweight, non-rusting, excellent thermal conductivity. Cold rooms, vehicle interiors, aerospace components 0.5mm

Engineering Justification

Why Engineers Specify Embossed Steel

Measured performance advantages over standard flat sheet.

🥾

Anti-Slip Safety

Diamond and round bump patterns increase the static coefficient of friction by 30–50% vs. flat sheet, supporting compliance with workplace flooring safety standards (OSHA, EN 13893).

💪

Enhanced Rigidity

3D structuring acts as micro-corrugation. Bending resistance increases by approximately 15–25% at the same nominal gauge — allowing downgauging without sacrificing structural integrity.

🛡️

Scratch & Fingerprint Concealment

Surface texture diffuses light reflection. Transit dings, assembly line scratches, and fingerprints become near-invisible. Reduces QA rejection rates in appliance final assembly lines.

🌡️

Increased Functional Surface Area

Embossing increases true surface area by 8–15% depending on pattern depth. This improves thermal dispersion and increases PU foam adhesion strength in sandwich panel applications.

Premium Aesthetics

Transforms raw metal into a visually refined architectural material. Diffuses glare, upgrades perceived product value, and is compatible with all standard paint and anodizing finishes.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions buyers and engineers ask before placing an order.

Can you emboss pre-painted (PPGI) steel without cracking the paint? +
Yes — with the correct process sequence. For PPGI, we apply a flexible top coat formulated to withstand roll-forming deformation before embossing. The key is specifying this requirement at the order stage so we select the correct paint system. Standard PE and PVDF coatings can accommodate shallow patterns (≤0.2mm depth) without cracking. Deeper custom patterns require HDP (High-Durability Polyester) or SMP coating.
How much does custom pattern tooling (roller milling) cost and who owns the mold? +
Custom embossing roller tooling is priced based on pattern complexity and roller width — typically in the range of USD 1,500–5,000 for a standard roller set. The tooling is dedicated to your pattern and stored under your account at our factory. Lead time for tooling is 10–15 business days. We recommend confirming with a physical strike sample before committing to full production volume.
Does embossing affect the zinc coating weight on galvanized steel? +
Embossing is performed after galvanizing. The roll-forming pressure redistributes the zinc coating slightly at the pattern peaks and valleys, but does not remove it. On standard zinc coating weights (Z100–Z275 g/m²), corrosion resistance performance remains compliant with ASTM A653. For highly aggressive environments, we recommend specifying a heavier base coating weight (Z275 or above) to maintain a safety margin.
What is the minimum order quantity, and can I get samples before ordering? +
MOQ for standard patterns: Cold Rolled and Galvanized Steel from 3 MT per coil. Stainless Steel and Aluminum from 5 MT. For cut-to-length sheets, MOQ is negotiable based on the sheet size and substrate. Physical samples (approx. 200mm × 200mm) are available at no charge for standard patterns — simply contact us with your substrate and pattern requirements. Custom-pattern strike samples are available for a nominal tooling deposit.
What is the lead time from order confirmation to shipment? +
For standard patterns on stocked substrates: 7–15 business days. For non-standard substrate specifications or large volume orders: 15–25 business days. Custom pattern orders (including new tooling): add 10–15 business days for roller milling before production begins. All lead times are confirmed in writing at order placement.
Which international standards do your embossed steel products comply with? +
Our products are produced in compliance with ASTM A653 (hot-dip galvanized steel sheet), ASTM A755 (metallic-coated steel sheet for prepainted applications), JIS G3302 (hot-dip zinc-coated steel sheet), and EN 10327 (continuously hot-dip coated steel strip). For aluminum embossed sheet, we reference ASTM B209. Full Mill Test Certificates (MTC) and IQC reports are provided with every shipment.
